Kathmandu : The government has decided to seek political and legal solution against the false and wrong publicity about Nepal in some Indian media.

Some Indian media have been making baseless and misleading publicity on Nepal's sovereignty and integrity. They have ignored even the general principles of journalism while making news on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

In a press meet organized at Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, government Spokesperson Dr Yubaraj Khatiwada said the media need to be fair and credible. "Whether they are national or the foreign, the media should disseminate only credible and fair news. The government condemns the news that assassinate character, foment ill intention, and tarnish image," he added.

The government is for the ethics and discipline in media rather than prohibiting any media, he said, adding that even the diplomatic efforts should be made against the misleading information spread by the Indian media. "We request all national and foreign media not to disseminate news that belittle and jeopardize Nepal, its nationality and integrity.

If it continues, we can resort to seeking political and legal remedy for it," Minister Dr Khatiwada underscored, indicating the baseless and misleading news in some Indian television channels. In the recent days, the Indian televisions have been making misleading publicity on Nepal's internal politics repeatedly.

Meanwhile, Spokesperson of the ruling Nepal Communist Party Narayan Kaji Shrestha has urged the Indian channels to stop such nonsense. He took to Twitter to show concern over misleading news spread by Indian media.

"We don't allow the ill intention of foreign countries to 'divide and fulfill vested interests'," he said, stating that Nepalis are united for Nepal's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Moreover, even the Prime Minister's press advisor Surya Thapa and Press Organization affiliated to the ruling party condemned the Indian media's journalism.
