Kathmandu: A civilian Chinese team, joined by Nepalis, delivered essential relief materials to the families of flood-hit Rasuwa district.

 

After driving by self for more than 15 hours in a slippery and extremely difficult mountain route, the team reached Uttargaya Rural Municipality to deliver the supplies to the displaced families living in a temporary shelter.

A joint Nepali-Chinese team under Nepal's Buffalo Meat Export Project to China delivered relief worth 2 million Nepali Rupees for 300 affected families.

Project representatives Navin Kumar Sharma and Wu Xiaoda, Chinese travel writer Yee Liang, representatives from Buffin, doctors, among others handed over the materials to Madhav Prasad Aryal, Chairman of Uttargaya Rural Municipality.

Receiving the relief supplies, Aryal expressed gratitude towards the project team and hoped for the long term support in rehabilitation and recovery. “Hundreds of families have been displaced. We need to build back, and for that the Chinese support is very important,” he said.

In response, the Chinese team shared commitment to be a helping hand on the long-term recovery process. “Chinese people don’t just sit online, appear in the news, or stay in offices saying that we love Nepal. We are here in Rasuwa,” a Chinese team member shared.

Travel writer Yee Liang, who has been visiting Nepal for the last 13 years shared, “We did not bring any banners, slogans, or logos with us. Most of us have lived here for many years. Nepal is not simply a place where we work, it is a home we share. For us, this is help between family members. We are simply doing for our Nepali friends what Nepali people have done for us countless times over the years.”

Recalling the tough land journey, he further stated, “Torrential rain, flash floods, road collapses, breakdowns – day and night, without pause. Go and do what you believe is right.

The team also took the doctors along with the relief supplies to help understand the real needs of displaced families and to send the next team accordingly. The relief supplies included rice packets, mattresses, utensils, super food for pregnant and old people, among others.

As the first Chinese civilian relief team to reach the area, which has been disconnected by major highway, the members shared that they are together in this tragedy.
