Speaker Mahara hands over list of names to Pakistani counterpart

Kathmandu, April 9

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Krishna Bahadur Mahara has handed over the list of names of Nepali lawmakers included in the Nepal-Pakistan Parliamentary Friendship Association to his Pakistani counterpart, Asad Qaiser.

The Speaker handed over the name list to Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan during their meeting on Monday night in Doha, Qatar. Both the Speakers are in Doha in course of attending the 140th assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

During the meeting, Speaker Mahara and the Pakistani Speaker exchanged views on the parliamentary practices, tradition and experience in their respective countries, Speaker Mahara's press coordinator Dilli Malla said.

Both the Speakers were unanimous that the parliament played significant role in promoting peace and human rights in the world. In response, the Pakistan Speaker said that they would also constitute a Pakistan-Nepal Parliamentary Friendship Association soon.

Stating that Nepal and Pakistan have a strong relationship, he believed the parliamentary friendship associations would provide additional support towards promoting deeper political ties and not only the diplomatic one.

Also on Monday, Speaker Mahara handed the list of names of lawmakers in the Nepal-Bangladesh Parliamentary Friendship Association to the Speaker of the Bangladesh parliament Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury.
